THE CHALLENGE

This project involved managing external and internal signage for two locations, encompassing fascia signage and faux neon interior signs. The client approached us after a rigorous vetting process, during which one of the owners invested significant time learning about our operations, lead times, and capabilities before sharing the full project scope.

Although the first location’s signage design was finalised, the project didn’t move forward due to lease issues. However, this initial collaboration laid a strong foundation of trust, setting the stage for future work.

THE SOLUTION

The client’s original request was for external signage at a new location, but complications with the landlord halted progress. Despite this, the detailed discussions around options, materials, and finishes helped establish a solid relationship and understanding, which proved invaluable for subsequent projects.

Knightsbridge Location:

  • Fascia Letters: We refreshed the existing fascia signage by installing flat-cut letters, ensuring brand consistency across both locations.

  • Internal Faux Neon Letters: Two sets of faux neon letters were installed—one on a partition wall and another on the flower tooth display—using embedded LEDs for a vibrant, modern glow.

Earls Court Location – Old Brompton Road:

We managed the signage for a double shopfront, which included:

  • Double Fascia Signage: Internally illuminated sign trays in iron grey, with fret-cut branding and opal acrylic inlays, illuminated by neutral white LEDs for a bold, professional storefront presence.

  • Projecting Sign: A double-sided illuminated projecting sign in matching finishes, installed with stand-off brackets to ensure high visibility from various angles.

  • Window Vinyl: Custom-cut vinyl graphics featuring a QR code, service listings, and partner logos.

  • Internal Faux Neon Signage: We installed two faux neon signs which include a glowing slogan on the wall and a neon logo incorporated into their unique "flower tooth" display, using embedded LEDs to create a sleek neon effect.

Project Highlights & The Importance of Project Management:

A standout element of this project was the collaboration with a florist to create the "flower tooth" displays, integrating both floral design and signage. This required precise coordination, as the florist sculpted the 3D floral tooth while we provided technical expertise on incorporating illuminated letters.

By the time we were brought into the project, the first tooth was already under construction. The florist shared drawings and mockups, and we developed a detailed plan to integrate LED-embedded acrylic letters. At this stage, our role expanded to project management, ensuring that all parties worked seamlessly together. We coordinated every step, from design to installation, navigating the complexities of a 3-dimensional product and its installation.

For the second location on Old Brompton Road, we applied the lessons learned from the first project. Recognizing the importance of early involvement, we took the lead in determining the appropriate tooth size by creating design proofs with various dimensions. This proactive approach allowed us to advise the florist on the best size for the window display, ensuring the signage fit perfectly.

We also introduced key project management techniques to streamline installation. Horizontal and vertical markings on the illuminated letter panel allowed the florist to use a spirit level to ensure perfect alignment and centred placement, leading to a flawless installation. This attention to detail underscored the importance of precise planning and coordination in achieving high-quality results.

Overcoming Challenges:

An unexpected challenge arose when the client requested a last-minute colour change for the fascia trays and projecting sign. We swiftly manufactured the new trays, only to face a setback when the landlord rejected the colour. Despite this, we successfully reverted to the original design without compromising the project timeline, demonstrating our adaptability and strong project management skills.

THE RESULT

This project showcased our ability to manage complex, multi-faceted signage projects while coordinating with diverse stakeholders. Our meticulous project management ensured smooth execution, even when faced with last-minute changes and unforeseen challenges. Through this collaborative process, we not
only delivered a visually striking result but also built a lasting relationship with the client, solidifying their trust and loyalty.
