University of West London
THE CHALLENGE
The University of West London relocated to a new campus opening at Uxbridge Road. At the new location they are situated over two buildings. They needed to refresh the signs and add their branding to the new campus. They contacted us to help with this challenge.
Following this they also wanted to update the Drama School signage in line with the style of the older building and other signage along the premises.
THE SOLUTION
To start with we updated the new Uxbridge Road building signs to reflect a refreshed look when you enter the building. A simple gesture like updating the building numbers speaks volumes when you approach the entrance.
In addition to the entrance sign we created large window graphics to create an impact as you approach the entrance. As well as working as signage to announce the location.
The external signage includes instructions for the car parking area in the form of freestanding signs.
Internally the signage continues with a large reception logo and interior wall graphics indicating rooms, safety and information signs.
The largest sign we created for the site was a totem sign designed to create a strong visual impact at day and night to mark these two buildings which are set back from the busy Uxbridge Road. The totem is double sided with internal illumination standing 3.5m tall. This was lifted into place in the early hours on a Sunday morning due being located on a busy street in London. We used special Hilti resin anchors to set this into the concrete foundation.
At the University of West London’s Drama school, a sign update was also required. Initially the idea was to create a wooden sign to be in line with the building’s aesthetic and other signs around the premises. But wood does not age well and holds other problematic qualities. After researching alternative options, it was decided to go with a three-dimensional Victorian inspired sign manufactured with cast fibreglass to elevate the signage to a new level.
THE RESULT
The University of West London’s new location now functions successfully as an educational facility with all the required signage to help navigate visitors and support students in their journey.
