Maple Leaf Vinyl

The Brief

Maple Leaf Vinyl is a record store and coffee shop located in Drayton High street owned by a husband and wife duo, Richard and Julie Paddon. Prior to opening in November 2022, the premises was a well established cafe run by the duo.

Richard, previously a DJ with a lifelong passion for music and vinyl, foresaw an opportunity to take the business in a new direction - Maple Leaf Vinyl was born.

The shop's location and history was an excellent advantage for a new business - being located on a busy highstreet with both pedestrian and vehicle traffic passing by as well as previous and existing clients. But with all these great things, signage was still required before the grand opening.

Fastsigns Portsmouth was briefed by Richard and Julie to design and create an exterior sign for the shop front that incorporated Maple Leaf Vinyl’s branding, and was eye-catching from both the footpath and road.

The Challenge

At the front of the premises there was an existing shop sign. The new sign needed to replace this without difficulty when installed. Maple Leaf Vinyl were not only passionate about music, but coffee too, selecting the very best Hertfordshire coffee to sell in the shop. This needed to be clearly communicated to customers with a signage solution.

We also had the challenge of designing and installing the signage within a very short period of time, ready for the grand opening.

The Solution

The team worked closely with Richard to create a shop sign that worked harmoniously with Maple Leaf Vinyl’s branding. The exterior sign was clean and concise, providing clear messaging that was easily read on a single sheet above the shop window and door.

To communicate key messaging about the quality coffee beans used in the shop, we created a window graphic that could be easily placed and easily removed should the supplier change in the future.

The Result

Working efficiently and communicating with Richard throughout the design and production process, we were able to successfully work within the given time constraints.

The exterior shop signage looks smart from both the footpath and road. It is easy to read and communicates clearly who and what the business is.
