A significant change being put into place is the requirement for proper signage on vehicles. In accordance with the Hackney Carriage and Private hire policy 2024, when operating a private hire vehicle, the vehicle must not be fitted with any sign on the roof. These vehicles must have an adhesive or magnetic sign permanently fixed to both front doors. These signs must be a minimum of 60cm wide by 19cm high and all lettering must measure at least 6cm in height. This sign must incorporate the council's logo and incorporate the wording ‘This Vehicle Must Be Prebooked’. You can also display the name and telephone number of the company operating your vehicle in its front and rear windows. If you do choose to have this display, it must not be more than 10cm high, must not contravene any Road traffic regulations and must not be illuminated. This change aims to improve visibility and make it easier for passengers to identify licensed private hire vehicles.
