Fire Door Maintenance (FDM)
The installation successfully complemented and supported a deeper understanding of fire safety processes and considerations.
The Challenge:
Fire Door Maintenance (FDM), a state-of-the-art training facility based in the Northwest of England that offers competency training in the fire door installation sector, required a signage solution to help them actualise their vision for an unprecedented training facility.
The Solution:
To help FDM provide a cutting-edge, engaging, and professional learning environment to facilitate robust training on the correct installation, specification, and maintenance of fire doors and their systems, FASTSIGNS® provided a complete service from consultation through to installation, transforming an empty shell into a compelling educational setting.
To create the training facility, FASTSIGNS® recommended simulating an apartment block, with doors opening into dedicated spaces. To achieve this, over 40 metres of internal corridor walls were clad with aluminium composite, and then decorated with vinyl graphics to mimic the experience of an apartment block. Each of the rooms was then opened up as 3rd party sponsor spaces within the facility. Each space was fitted with sponsoring companies, logos and information, showcased using sign trays, flat-cut lettering, acrylic signage and vinyl lettering to enhance brand visibility and provide product information.
Before entering the ‘apartment block’, FASTSIGNS® provided a strategically positioned statement printed wallpaper, which mimics a house fire, creating a dramatic atmosphere within the training facility and underpins why their work is so fundamental as they fight for the prevention of fires.
Another crucial element of the design was the creation of signage promoting "The Golden Thread," guidance developed for construction companies after the Grenfell Tower tragedy. Upon entering the facility, visitors are immediately presented with engaging graphics related to "The Golden Thread," followed by a Q&A area with frequently asked questions and expert responses.
FASTSIGNS® Manchester designed, manufactured, and installed displays showcasing FDM's fire safety products available to service users, including local authorities and fire door manufacturers.
The Result:
The installation successfully complemented and supported a deeper understanding of fire safety processes and considerations. The strategic placement and impactful nature of the signage and graphics aimed to "shock into action" the facility's visitors, fulfilling FDM Managing Director, Nicola John's, vision.
