STEM Education Centre
Creative Classroom Fosters Future Innovators
The Challenge
London Gatwick’s STEM education centre, located on the Gatwick Airport site, required help from FASTSIGNS in creating an engaging and informative learning environment that would inspire and educate children aged 5-18 about STEM subjects and potential future careers.
The Solution
FASTSIGNS worked with the team at the STEM project to understand the space they had available within the airport for the learning facility. Initially, the space was one very large room; however, as plans developed, a partition wall was implemented, which meant FASTSIGNS had to work quickly to amend their suggested designs.
With the customer's objective to make the space interesting, FASTSIGNS suggested a bold colour palette of lime green, orange, turquoise, and purple. Using the agreed colour scheme, FASTSIGNS created wall graphics featuring historic scientists, adding educational value and visual interest to the space.
An illuminated built-up wall graphic showing the profile of an aeroplane was installed, serving as a focal point and enhancing the room’s ambience. Multi-dimensional letters and an illuminated sign tray in the shape of a cog were used as entrance signs, adding depth and intrigue. Window graphics and pillar graphics were added to ensure that every inch of the training room had graphical attention, creating a cohesive and immersive environment.
The Result
FASTSIGNS successfully transformed London Gatwick’s STEM education centre into a vibrant and educational space. By addressing challenges related to engagement, educational value, and comprehensive design, FASTSIGNS created an environment that not only captivates students but also enriches their learning experience. The result is an exciting and inspiring facility that supports the next generation’s interest in STEM subjects and careers.
Louisa Venables, Engineering STEM Co-ordinator, comments, “FASTSIGNS were so easy to get along with, they were approachable and had amazing ideas that just wowed and excited us!”
